The Hundred Languages of Children

This beautiful poem by Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the Reggio Emilia approach to education, reminds us that every child is naturally curious, creative, and capable. Children express their ideas, emotions, and understanding of the world in countless ways—through art, music, movement, dramatic play, building, storytelling, conversation, and exploration.

The concept of the “Hundred Languages” celebrates the many ways children learn and communicate. Rather than focusing on a single method of learning, it encourages educators and families to recognize and nurture each child’s unique strengths, interests, and talents.

When children are given opportunities to explore, create, question, and express themselves freely, they develop confidence in their abilities and a lifelong love of learning. Every drawing, block structure, song, question, and imaginative play scenario becomes a meaningful language through which children share their thoughts and discoveries.

At West Hollywood Children’s Academy, we believe that every child has a voice worth hearing and a unique perspective worth celebrating. By honoring the many ways children express themselves, we create an environment where creativity flourishes, curiosity is encouraged, and each child is empowered to reach their full potential.

We believe that childhood is rich with possibilities, imagination, and wonder—and that our role as educators is to listen, support, and nurture each child’s journey of discovery.
